Who controlled what and when is now structurally documented – instead of on paper, in Excel lists, or just in the head of the responsible person.
„Forester convicted after dry branch accident» – this SRF headline has kept many forestry operations busy over the past few days. The verdict itself is not the subject here: the complete case files and legal expertise are lacking for that. However, the headline raises a question that affects every operation, regardless of the individual case: How can it still be proven years later who controlled what, when, and where?
With Checkbox, ForstControl now provides an answer to this: a new extension for the central creation of digital checklists, forms, and logs. All participating employees work with the same structured templates and receive a clear, up-to-date overview of completed checks, inspections, and instructions—fillable directly out in the field on a smartphone or tablet.
Form builder with drag & drop
At the core of Checkbox is a form builder that allows any forms to be assembled via drag & drop: with custom sections and fields for text, numbers, dates, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns, photos, files, and signatures. Photos, files, signatures, and log numbers are captured directly within the form – nothing needs to be gathered afterward..
What can be documented with a checkbox
- Safety and tree inspections as well as further inspections
- Playgrounds, fitness trails and benches
- Machine introductions as well as machine and vehicle handovers
- PSA checks
- Employee training and instructions
- Maintenance and service logs
- Water reservoirs and other facilities
- Photos, remarks and multiple signatures
- User, date and timestamp
- complete history and PDF logs
Checkbox can be used as a standalone extension directly within ForstControl and is suitable for forestry operations as well as municipalities, maintenance yards, and anyone who needs to structurally document recurring inspections on trees, facilities, or machinery.
The extension is activated and is currently free of charge (0.00 CHF) to use. Existing ForstControl users can test Checkbox free of charge for 90 days with immediate effect and provide practical feedback; in addition, the plugin can be tested for 30 days upon request.
A checkbox does not prevent accidents and does not replace technical inspections or legal requirements. However, it creates a simple basis for recording performed inspections in a structured and traceable manner – so that a business can prove what was actually done in an emergency.
